Sir Alex Ferguson was pretty sure that Manchester United’s campaign for a 19th Premier League cup and the Champion’s League won’t be derailed without Rooney. He surely is being proved wrong here.
Rooney hobbled of the pitch in the match against Bayern and it seemed certain that without a man whose in prime form, having netted the ball 34 times this season, Manchester United will be a pale shadow of themselves against an in-form Chelsea and the germans in the second leg. Although it is pretty obvious to note that Bayern can still be taken care of and ManU can definitely make it to the Champions League semis, beating Chelsea seemed out of the question.
They say “no one is irreplaceable” – you can always find substitute stars for an injured player who can play equally well. But there are always some players who have that specialness with them, the X factor, which can turn the game on the head and make that difference. I am a die hard supporter of Manchester United, and have been following them for 7 years now. But even though the pundits were all in favour of ManU winning, specially when the match had to be played on home turf, I couldn’t join them, because it was certain that ManU was missing that special player in their unit. The team may seem pretty balanced, and you have to give Sir Alex the credit for that. But at the same time, he will have to buy an all-out goal scorer like Rooney, because at this moment he doesn’t have any. The only players who met Rooney’s standards int he team were Ronaldo and Tevez. Ronaldo, being the man that he is, ditched the team that made him and left for the Spanish lands, where he isn’t really doing well. As for Tevez, it is certain that Ferguson is missing him. For a man who wasn’t worth the 25 million pounds spent on him as said by the manager, the Argentine is scoring at almost the same rate for Manchester City.
We saw Chelsea leave Drogba on the bench for matches and we also know Rooney and Drogba are players of such class that can fill rival defenses with fear, and Rooney’s absence fired up Chelsea even more. Ancelotti’s decision to leave Drogba on the bench illustrated the Blues’ strength-in-depth compared to United, so lacking in goalscoring strength without Rooney.
The season is almost over, and the title race is still wide open for Arsenal, Chelsea and ManU. And this season has made it clear that Sir Alex will be looking for a second goal scorer for next season and whether he buys x or y, ManU will be a big force this transfer season. Ferguson has always stressed that the team is up for it without Rooney as the team hadn’t lost a match without him. But after this match, there is no saying that the Talisman is not missed. No mind games are going to work now, we need a goal scorer to support Rooney. Berbatov is not upto the challenge most of the times, Owen frequently gets injured and substitutes are not to be relied on all the time. Giggs and Scholes do turn back the clocks with their mesmerizing performances now and then, but they wont last forever.
The reality also brings out the fact that Sir Alex was fully aware of this before the match. And now he cannot deny it.
My Boards ended about 4 days back and I, to be honest, have gone out every single day apart from 31st March, when I decided to stay at home *duh*. Anyways, the boards had been truly remarkable and I hope that the checking is fair and favourable
.
So, what’s in store this month for me? Apart from appearing for those admission tests to coaching institutes like Vidyamandir or Resonance, I plan to go to KOTA for a week since Resonance has invited me to a camp for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yogana training. This is an exam for science students who can get upto Rs. 7000 per month if you clear the exam. So, I’ll might be off to Kota on the 13th of this month and will be back by 18th or 19th.
Other things this month include the THEME Piano Concert where I’ll be playing and singing a few ABBA numbers with a group. This is on the 25th of this month so there is a lot of practice to do since I had taken a break from piano from January to March. That’s it for April.
This year is a crazy year for me atleast since we have a lot of things planned for our school, a lot of competitions to go to and lot to study because I don’t wanna flunk class 11 roflmao. There are lots of things like SAT I and II for which I have to prepare along with the Grade 8 piano exam and the IITJEE coachings.
This academic year is going to be a pain. Hope it goes well!
Okk….this is the final CBSE IT Project
containing 10 samples. You can use the samples although I would advise you not to use them directly since there are some things which are related to what I do i.e. a page of my Photoshop creations and some pics in some docs. PLEASE modify them before submission. PLEASE!!!
2008 hasn’t really been one of my best years. I’ve tried lots of things this year, gone for many competitions, won some and lost many. Still, as the memories fade away and I witness the last night of 2008 in another couple of days, just want to write about some the defining moments of this year before I crack up studying for the preboards:
One of the worst quizzing seasons I’ve had. Its been a downhill ride since April when we won the quiz at Gyan Bharati (Anveshan). Since then the only good moments have been the Columban quarters and the CBSE Heritage quiz zonals – which we lost again. The japan quiz, LBR, TCS etc etc…the list could go on and on….Still, let history not repeat itself…2009, I’m waiting for you!
This year was my fist experience at Computer symposiums at DPS VK, RKP, MR. I loved the way the event functions – students running around all over the school, the whole school buzzing with activity and 4 guys from Amity Saket running from event to event in the pursuit of getting “Something” for our school. We did get some stuff in DJing, Gaming and made it to some quiz finals. Atleast I got some experience!
I have successfully messed up 3 sets of examinations, trying to resurface after each attempt. July test, 1st term, December test…..SSc has become my nemesis. And with the preboards on my head…SSc is the last thing I want to do. But the catch is that it is the first preboard.
Other subjects have been fine. English is going good and there has been improvement to a 94 in german. Am just about to touch perfect score in maths. Science is OK….apart from some silly errors here and there.
This is one ‘big’ event we won – big because it was a national event. We got both the 1st and the special awards in this computer event. It consisted of a quiz in the first round and a makeshift powerpoint presentation in the second round since the quiz couldn’t take place. We didn’t go to collect the prizes in Chennai since that would mean missing out 8 days of studies and a band competition.
Speaking of the band, we’ve made a start. Now, we are playing DreamTheater stuff although our inclination is more towards punk. We also got Rs. 3000 for qualifying at a RockFest organised by Ansal Plaza….we were the only school band, the others were college bands and professionals.
Among all the quizzes, IT comps, band etc etc saw me missing from fast paced action in class sometimes. The teachers took this as a chance to speed up studies – The course was wrapped up in November! I thought of putting up a notice on my usual, changing empty seat in class with my photo and the words ‘Missing, presumed fed’ written below it.
Something I will surely miss from next year. This quiz has BIG prizes and a HUGE no. of teams. Shreyans and me finished 4th out of 500 odd teams by 5 points – heartbreaking.
We went, we sat and watched in awe… These matches were too good to be true. Thanks to Abheek and Akash for getting me tickets to these matches. Abheek’s leaving school and I’ll truly miss him – my best friend.
Starting April, I’ll be doing Grade 8 for western classical piano from Trinity College, London. This is the final level and after this I’ll only have to do the diplomas.
I’ve slept through the year and now is the time for the New Year Resolutions:
Why? Because I’ve missed so many classes that it is impossible to count the number of classes missed on both your fingers and toes.
See (1) for further explanations. Less Sleep -> more study
Come on. I’ve lost count of the no. of events I lost through this year!
I’ll write more often than not on this online journal. I lose track of what to write and what not to….
Well that’s it, I guess. This may well be the last post for 2008.
Wishing you all a prosperous new year!!
A thousand views…..a landmark! Congratulations!!!!
I’ll keep blogging while you keep visiting to read all sorts of *crap* I write, even though it has ‘Some’ significance in your life…..

Cambridge University students had been asked to compare the lyrics of the scarecrow pop star ‘Amy Winehouse’, who has more tattoos than her total collection of songs, with the poetry of Sir Walter Raleigh in a final year exam paper. Those taking the Practical Criticism paper were given a sheet containing Amy’s words from her single ‘Love is a Losing Game’ and asked to contrast them with a work by the 16th century poet and explorer!
Scarecrow’s song, which last week won her a songwriting prize at the Ivor Novello awards, includes the lines:
Why do I wish I never played
Oh, what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game.
The third-year English students taking the exam were also asked to compare Raleigh’s poem with songs by the rock star Bob Dylan and blues singer Billie Holiday. The exam question read: The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘lyric’ as ‘Of or pertaining to the lyre; adapted to the lyre, meant to be sung’. It also quotes Ruskin’s maxim ‘lyric poetry is the expression by the poet of his own feelings’.
“Compare poem (a) on the separate sheet [a lyric by Sir Walter Ralegh, written 1592] with one or two of the song-lyrics (b)-(d) with reference to these diverse senses of ‘lyric’.” Many were shocked to see Amy Winehouse’sname on this paper. This is really bizarre. I mean, how can a scarecrow, a controversial pop singer be considered as a literary figure? Especially by a college of high repute like Cambridge?
But there have been other reactions to this incident. A female final year English student said: “I think it’s cool – poetry doesn’t have to mean Keats and Byron but there were a lot of surprised people. You can’t prepare for questions like that.” Wow, must be a huge fan of scarecrow…
After furthur readings about this, I found out that Raleigh was also credited with bringing tobacco to England, something of which his fellow literary legend Winehouse would no doubt approve….Scary Amy.
Had the Heliodyssey test results on the 15th of May. It was all about astronomy. Questions varied from general awareness, core astronomy, and a lot more. Top 5 would get to qualify for the trip to Russia to view the total solar eclipse on 1st August. Too bad I missed it. Still, I won myself a pair of terrestrial binoculars. But THE best part came when I saw my result:
Your score was 42. You missed the qualification by 5 marks. Hope you take part in Heliodyssey 2009 and come to China.
Part 1: 42! What a score! But too bad it wasn’t the highest.
Part 2: China?!?!?! Don’t these guys know that the total solar eclipse will occur in New Delhi as well?? Anyways, will try again in 2009. Till then.
Haven’t been online for some time now…..courtesy the school;s extreme study schedule and couple of piano and astronomy exams. School’s on, till 23rd. As the say,
When the going gets tough, Agrim gets going.
So, I’ll be off. Till then, its IPL time. KKR won today, but DD lost. Pity, but still, I’m game for the 22nd May match between the two sides, because 99% I’m going. Also, I’m almost done with the ragtime part of the Scene Seven: Dance of Eternity, will post it once done.
