Here are some tips, which might help you in the german exams. They might be simple, yet effective.:.
1. For Perfekt and Plusquamperfekt, make sure whether ‘Sein’ or ‘Haben’ have to be used.
2. Check which ’sie’ is being used. It can be feminine, plural or the formal case. Conjugate the verb accordingly.
3. In akkusativ and nominativ cases, the adjektivendungen for plural without articles is ‘e’. Examples: viele, einige, solche etc.
4. Be careful in using the endungen tables and DO NOT confuse yourselves with the ohne artikel table.
5. All konjunktions, weil, wenn, dass, wie, ob, the verb is thrown to the end position. But in denn, the verb is at 2nd position since denn is at 0 place.
6. Weil and denn mean because, wenn means if and whenever, dass is for information to be forwarded(i know that…etc), ob is for doubt, wie means how and all other fragepronomen are used if there is a question.
7. Do not forget about the UDASO case of conjunctions.
8. There are pure akk, pure dativ, genetivs ( not in course) and wechsel praposition which change with ‘wo’(stationary) and ‘wohin’(action/movement) and also verbs with feste prapositionen and the article they take is as per their respective cases (N/A/D)
9. While dealing with Relativpronomen, make sure that the sentence is of which case (N/A/D), verb with zwei objekte or verbs with prepositions (bei dem, mit denen usw.)
10. Unseen passages: Dont make mistakes in verb positions, spellings of nouns and forgetting to write them in capital letters. For proper usage of grammar, check out the little tit-bits mentioned in between the lessons, before the exercises in the textbook.
11. Write atleast 30-35 lines in an essay question. For words which are similar, try and not repeat the words if you have an alternative. Make good use of the grammar you know i.e. use relativ etc to express yourself well.
12. Translations: German to English. Check out the translations for lessons 10-16 and read through lessons 1-9 incase you missed out some important words there. English to german. Think and read the sentence well keeping the german grammar in mind. Sometimes you may overlook the prateritum in the verbs, or maybe just missout on one or two words. Also, learn about the verbs used in special cases like “Wir machen eine Reise.” We MAKE a journey and not TRAVEL i.e. fahren/gehen.
13. Learn the meanings of the question words like the simplest of them being ‘wo, wohin’ going to ‘was für welch(en/er/es/e)…’ This helps to interpret questions in unseen passages.
Well, these were the simplest of stuff which could prove to be decisive, getting you that ectra one or two marks. Good luck for your exams!
